Today Mr. Bruns talked about his own blog over WWI. During WWI it was mostly trench warfare. No mans land was basically an easy place to get killed. Machine guns were used a lot and were what led to a lot of causalities. Europe basically lost because they were fighting two wars at once. They had us and Russia on the other side, so they had to split their military. Another cause of WWI was the fact that countries competed one another for markets, raw materials, and colonies. Women were affected a lot during WWI. They had to go to work and had to support for themselves and their family. Militarism, imperialism, and nationalism were three huge causes of WWI. This was a war of spoils, the winner would get something from the losers. Archduke Ferdinand was going to be the next king of Austria-Hungary. He was shot and that’s what brought them into the war. Austria declares war on Serbia. Russia felt like they had to protect Serbia and then they were in the war.The Von Schlieffen plan was for Germany to attack and conquer the French really quickly so they could focus on Russia. The plan did not work but, it worked in WWII. WWI was the last war that gas was used. They made it illegal after WWI. Flamethrowers, grenades, machine guns, pistols, and gas attacks were weapons used. Gas didn’t necessarily work because if you blow gas one way the wind could change and it could come back at you.
