Continuing right away with the planet in peril video, the Ibama group caught some poachers. then the story moved on to tell about the murder of a nun named dorothy stang, who thaught a village how to efectivly use the rain forest, and who defended that villag agaisnt big logging companies. so, one of the companies had her murdered,in the hopes that the village would pick up and leave so the land would go to the logging companies. But the effect was just the oppostite, and the goernment of brzil became involved in stopping logging companies.Next story, an amazon tribe, the Craw-ho (?) spend much of their time on patrols to chase away illegal poachers from their lands....etc.And, in Texas, a family blames a chenmical complex for their son's sudden developement of luchemia. A study was done, and it showed that children living within 2 miles of such chemical plants had a 56% greater chance of developing luchemia, cnacer or birth defects. Some believe that even though the chemical plants know about this, they dont really care because of envirnmental racism....since most of those 2-mile radius people are hispanic. There arent many laws against pollution in some of these areas, but still some of the companies are voluntarily trying to reduce the toxins they emmit.So, nearing the end of the video, it shows a recap of all the places the hosts of the movie went to, the people they met, the things they learned. The video points out how, in america, the whole global warming thing seems to be centered on politics. But in reality, its happening everywhere, and its all inter-related. No individual thing from the video is happening alone, with no outside cause or effect...it all contributes and builds up to cause a problem we may or mey not be able to prevent.Transition to Rwanda blogs: the Hutus who mass-murdered the Tutsis because of a tragedy... and the lack of understanding plus the build-up of resentment between the two ethnic groups. Resentment was mostly caused by the Belgians, who prefered Tutsis over Hutus. When the belgians left rwanda, the Hutus took power (because they made up 85% of rwanda's population) and propoganda ensued to get rid of the Tutsis. But, the whole massacre was instigated bny the assassination of the Hutu president.....discussion continued tomorrow.
