Today we continued the video where we left off yesterday, on the carderet islands, which are sinking. Global warming is also affecting coral reefs, which protect the shores of islands from too much damage from waves, storms etc. "bleaching" is the name of this effect, which kills off coral reefs when there is too much sunlight and heat.In another part of the world, africa, Lake Chad is drying up. it has shrunk by nearly 90% voer the past years. Less water in the lake means less fish (and water) and so there is less of a resource for people, so people are leaving too. This isnt the first time Lake Chad has dried up. but it is the first time it was so dramatic and because of global warming. Also because nigeria (the location of lake chad) has a naturally dry climate, more and more resources are disappearing, and rapidly. Especially fish, which millions of people depend on. No water, no fish, no food. So, no food makes the once-healthy people more vunerable to diseases. So, is all this change mankind's fault? or is it not? And, here's James Inhoffe!!! the ever-cynical, anit-global warming position constantly going agaisnt the theory that so blatantly makes itself obvious. Or, so the other people say. Basically, theres overwhelming evidence on both sides, and neither are willing to let the other talk, or listen to one another to reach a common conclusion that can help prevent the problem. What do you know, thats just human nature isnt it? But anyways....One of the world's largest rain forests, the Amazon, in Brazil, is apparently also one of the world's largest greenhouse gas emmiters. 'why? because of the rate at which they are being cut down (when a tree is cut down, the carbon dioxide stored up inside it is released). 20% of the Amazon has disappeared because of illegal logging (because a very large amount of it is illegal) But, its not all the loggers' fault. some is also due to small-time farmers, who need more land to grow food (because this area is poverty-stricked, too). Here, we stopped the video and will continue on monday.
