Today we will be watching the rest of the video from yesterday....i still dont know what its called, although i know he said what it was. again, the way the video defines overpopulation is not just how manty people there are, but how much impact each person has. some reminders of things from the video....in places like africa and india and whatnot, men are dominant over women. the women get amlost no say in anything about their own lives, like how many children to have, where to go, what to do, etc. women in general cannot get an aducation, and even those that do dont get the same educations that men do. its widely male-dictated.Today, the video continued with these facts with the segment called "Son Mania". They pray hard in india for God to give them sons...many people go so far as to get abortions whenever they know their baby is going to be a girl. (really, i think this is sexist, the whole anti-girl thing) So, girls are often either aborted or abandoned, or given little importance when brought up in their families. The next segment was about what happens when children and babies die....which, unfortunately, happens very VERY often. But, even when their children die, they continue to have children, because clinics and hospitals are few and far between. people usually have either malnutrition, disease, or really stunted growth. Many people, however, are beginning to realize the consequences and mistakes of having too many children, and are working hard to tell others about it. There are also lots of people who are trying to get remote places education and outside help.In the '70's, milllions of people were tricked into being sterilized, and none of them are ahppy about it. the government, in an attempt to slow the growth of the population, lied to the people. that leader was thrown out, but the people never got over it. Now, the government is thinking of putting incentives out that will convince the people not to have so many children and to give women more respect. Other than the government, some of the churches are argueing that taking birth control is sin, because "children are the will of God". i really think some of their views are screwed up.
