First of all today we talked about the semester test day. We are now coming with a partner and we have 3 questions which are 30 points each. Me and Nick are at 1:15 on Monday.WW1 was all about winning land. When WW1 broke out the US was officially neutral which meant they could trade with both powers.US involvment in WW1.1. US was very upset with both sides in war. We didn't like that Great Britian was taking our goods and the Germans were sinking and killing our ships and crews.2. The Zimmerman Note from Germany declared that they were going to start sinking all ships with U-boats. They wanted us to keep out of the war. It also said that if this didn't work Mexico would fight the US to keep them out of Europe and if they won they would get their lost territory. It was put in papers and this helped to get the US to declare war.3. Jingoism4. Trade with England increased, Germany decreased as years went on. 3 Billion dollars went to england in goods basically saying that we are allied with england economically.5. Propoganda6. Preparedness Program had us prepared for war7. American Businesses pushed the government to go to war so they could make money on weapons and other wartime goods8. German declaration of “unlimited submarine warfare”The Lusitania was a British ship that was sunk killing 130 Americans. It pushed us closer to the war.The Homefront refers to what people are doing back in the US to help win the war. Every country had its own Homefront.The War Industries Board helped make sure that wartime factories made as many goods as they possible could.Food needed to be conserved. Hoover urged people to conserve food and plant victory gardens to feed themselves instead of “taking from the soldiers”. Food helped to win the war.Committee of Public Information had a main goal to influence US public opinion to support WW1.
