today we started chapter nine projects. zach harris had worker safety and that answered question one. whitney gross had child labor, and this answered question two. austin mumm presented his SIX PAGE BLOG, and answered question three...Chapter Nine Key Questions..1. What did the progressives do to make the workplace safer?-gave companies a list of regulations that seemed fair. ear muffs, guard rails, workers compensation, child labor laws, the organization OSAH. the government continues to increase and make sure workers are safe at any job.2. What did the progressives do to help end or reduce child labor?-before; child labor was very common. children were paid less, and didnt argue like adults did. many children got diseases from working atmospheres. 1916, Keating-Owen Act, prohibited states from trading child made material with other states. progressives mostly ended child labor in every state by 1920.3. What is prohibition?-banning of something, alcohol, rock and roll, etc....Why did people want prohibition to come about?-weren't many laws against alcohol. people were getting drunk in the streets and falling in gutters. at first, the tried to end public drunkiness all together....What tactics were used to bring about prohibition?-Carrie A. Nation, posters and public announcements. go and try to find alcohol and destroy it. alot of the supports that they were trying to get rid of drunkiness not to ban alcohol all together. during the civil war, all the laws against prohibition were put aside. the anti-saloon league started back up. more and more states were banning alcohol until the 18th ammendment banned all alcohol(selling, making, and transporting). during; the prohibitionist realized their idea wasnt really working. people were getting drunk more and more. The Volstaed Act- made alcohol completely illegal and anyone found with it would be punished.
