Today I studied the whole class period for my test. Once again i learned that cowboy's lifes were tough. They had to do hard work, physical labor, and long days on the open range. The Homestead Act offered 160 acres of land to people but, they had to build a house and live on it and farm the land. Farmers faced a lot of hard ships on the Great Plains. The ground was really hard so the land was hard to farm, railroads took advantage of them, and they had a lack of natural resources. The production of steel, oil, and other resources is what really started the industrial revolution.Immigrants came to the US because of land shortages, famine, and work. They mainly came from Europe, Latin America, and Asia(Mostly China). Cities grew so quickly in the late 1800's and early 1900's because of immigrants, people moving to cities for jobs, and farmers moving to cities because they went into debt. Because of this rapid increase in population the cities had problems. There was major overcrowding and sanitary problems.
