Philippines- Filipinos thought we were going to give them freedom, but we were just going to take them over. Emilio Aguinaldo was the leader of the Philippines thought we were fighting for their freedom too, and when he found out about the treaty he fougt against us in a war that was a waste because many innocent people were killed and the war costs more than what we paid for the philippiens.panama canal- the canal is a shipping lane between the atlantic and pacific ocean. it saved time and money by making the canal instead of having to go all the way around the world you could travel 60 miles in the panama canal. roads and trails took forever so they made the pananian railroad. 600-1200 died from malaria and choken. after the completion of the suez canal the french wanted to make one just like it in central america, french got 400 million from people for the project. we later took over with the project because of bankrupcy and diseases. the Hay-Herran treaty gave us some of clombian land.malaria- before work on the canal began the u.s. had tp clean diseases up so they drained the swamps, put up mosquito nets and sprayed houses.
