Today we finished up blogs.PhillipinesWe got it as a result of the Spanish American war. They liked us before the war because they thought we would do the same thing that we did with Cuba. This caused the Phillipine American war when we did not. We conquered them and we ruled it and set up a democracy and build roads, hospitals, and schools. It was then taken over by Japan in WW2 and later gained it independence in 1946.Teddy Roosevelt's Nobel Peace PrizeHe negotiated the end of the Russo Japanese War between Russia and Japan. Japan won this war which was supprising since they were small and had little resources. Both countries wanted to end the war so Roosevelt acted as the arbitrator by talking to diplomats from both sides. This led to the Treaty of Portsmouth which gave Japan part of Russian territory and Russia didn't have to pay for losing. Japan emerged as a world superpower.Roosevelt wouldn't use the money until he was out of office.Situation with Mexico.Mexico was very poor and the US controlled the mines and a lot of the economy (Exp. of Dollar Diplomicy). They had a very bad government so we wouldn't recognize them. Poncho Villa led an underground group against the government and he actually came into the US and killed people.
