today we are finishing presentations. first Stacey and Tony went (nelson isnt in our class anymore) with their species destruction topic powerpoint. they talked about what made species exticnt (like dieseases, loss of habitat, and scarce food) and gave examples of some that were extinct and or endangered. apparently, it is estimated that 1/2 of the world's animals will be extinct by 2100. Then they talked about what people are doing to stop animals from gonig extinct...we are putting them in captivity (safe environments for the to live and breed) and the laws that are trying to help them.Next was Liz, Payton, and Megan with their Deforestation powerpoint. First they defined deforestation and told us what it did and happened after it occured. Basically, no trees = no rain (and vice versa, right?) also, no rain + no trees = loss of animal habitat --> extinction and endarngerement of animals and plants. deforestation widely affects how we will live our lives in the futrure, not to mention the loss on thousands of still-undiscovered species we may never see and ones we already know of. causes of deforestation include mining for minerals, fires (accidental), logging companies, farming purposes, and construction. next thye told us how we can help to prevent deforestation....etc.
