Today we worked on talking some more of our blogs.I finished mine first.Next we went on toDiscuss the the development of the Panama Canal.The French started to build a canal but because there were so many disieses they gave up. The United States eventually got control and they were able to build it. We wanted to build it to save time going around SA. Columbia didn't want us to get control of Panama. Panama declared its independence with the backing of the US Navy and they allowed us to build the canal. They drained the swamps to help eliminate yellow fever and maleria.Big Stick Diplomacy--"Speak softly but carry a big stick"it was the idea that you could negotiate gently with other nations but basically threaten them with military might.Roosevelt Corollary and Monroe DoctrineThe doctrine warned Europe to stay out of the Americas and saying that we wouldn’t meddle with their colonies. The Corollary stated that if Europe had a dispute between Latin America they would come to the US to help settle it.Dollar Diplomacyeconomic imperialism controlled a lot of the money of the country by giving them loans so that you basically had power over the country.Missionary Diplomacyidea that they wouldn’t recognize a government of a country that they thought was threatening or intimidating to them
