We continued with chapter ten blog presentations.......After president Mckinely died, Roosevelt became the US president. In 1904, Russia declared war on Japan. Japan asked TR for help on setteling the war. TR brought these two countries and formed peace between them. That is how he got the Noble Peace Prize.-Kyla HamiltonThe Panama Canal is a ship canal by Panama. We wanted a ship canal here to reduce the amount of time goods and transported. Before we controlled Panama, it was controlled by Columbia. It was a Columbian territory. So, like in 1898 some guy hired some guy, from the US lawfirm. They decided to move it for Nicuragua to Panama. In 1902, they passed that it would be moved to Panama. The US passed a land grant but the senate of Columbia didnt approve of it. There was a riot between US soldiers and Panamanian people. A treaty gave land that we owned back to Panama. There were a bunch of "accident" deaths from machinery and other causes. In 1914, the canal was opened. The first ship to move through SS Ancon. Columbia was very concerned that we would try to control Panama. Main people working on it were black from the Caribeans.-Erin MarkhamMonroe Doctorine, we said to Europe that if they tried to collonize in the Americas we would call it a hostile threat or an attack against our country. This could lead to war with the United States. Came about in he 1820's. Roosevelt Corollary, addition to the Monroe Doctorine said that if Europe had a problem with Latin America, they should come to the Americas to solve the problem. Big Stick Diplomacy, go to their country ask nicely, and then threaten them with military attack. Roosevelt was a big believer in showing off America's big powerful military. Using it as a threat, not actually using it. Dollar Diplomacy, is basically buying the trust of other countries. Business and banks would give out money to other companies. "economic imperialism." Missionary Diplomacy just his way of saying that we will only recognize countries that are friendly with the United States.-Ian Odell
