On the sunday, June 28 1914 at about 1:15 pm Franz Ferdinand and his wife were killed in Saeajevo. He was killed by Gavrilo Princip who was 19 at the time and a member of Young Bosnia. This is one group of a assassins organization. The assassination lead a chain reaction of events that lead to the start od WWI.The couple had been attacked before when a grenade was thrown at their car. Ferdinand had saw the grenade and deflected it. The royal couple were on there way to visit people who were in the hospital. After that they decided to go back to the palace, but there driver took the wrong turn onto a ally way. This is where Princip spotted them. As the driver was backing up Princip approached there car and shot his wife in the stomach area and Ferdinand in the neck. Franz was still alive when witnesses arrived to try and help. His final words were " Don't die darling, live for my children." Princip used the browing .380 ACP cartridge, wich is a small bullet and looks like a pistol round.vThe witnesses tried to open his jacket but were unable to and he died within minutes. His wife died on the route to the hospital.Less than two months after the shooting Austria-Hungary's declared war against Serbia.
