Today i kept looking up stuff about prohibition. Medical professionals had major problems with prohibition because it applied to any alcohol given for a perscription as well. Medical physicians across America gathered together to get prohibition repealed. The 29th section of the Volstead Act said that people could make wine and cider at home from fruit and but beer. They could only produce up to 200 gallons per year though. Because it wasn't illegal to actually drink alcohol some people stocked up on alcohol before prohibition started. Since they had the alcohol before it started they could legally sell it or drink it.Surrounding countries as in Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbeans liked the fact that the US had prohibition. Many people would go there just for the alcohol. A lot of alcohol was smuggled in from those countries. Chicago was known as the center of all of this. This time everyone knows as the roaring twenties. Chicago had a lot of prostitution, crime, and dangerous gangs. Al Capone and his gang made millions of dollars by selling alcohol illegally. He overlooked more than 10,000 speakeasies by the end of the decade.
