Today I was absent, but I got information from other people's blogs.What/who were muckrakers and what impact did they have on our country?Muckrakers were people who tried to expose and get rid of companies that formed monopolies. Teddy Roosevelt got the term muckrakers to stay because thats what he called a character in a Paul Bunyan story. Ida Tarbell wrote a book about the Standard Oil Company, she wrote about how they got rid of all the other companies their field. Upton SinClaire wrote a book called The Jungle, he wrote about how bad the meat industry was. He wrote about what people were actually eating and it disgusted people. They educated the people about what was really going on in our country, and what they did led to many laws that helped the country grow. What did businesses do to bring better efficiency to their business? Before the progressive era making products took a long time and a lot of work. People used small tools. During the progressive era companies started using assembly lines, which made work a lot easier, Henry Ford also started the $5 work day. He did this because he couldn't afford to have people quit, because if they did new people would have to be trained. Technology and computers are used today to make work go faster and more efficient.
