Republican Party Split.- due to these problems with the taft, the republicans split into old-guard republicans and the progressive republicans.- TR did not get the republican nomination so he decided to run as a third part candidate in the progressive party(bull moose party)Wilson's Accomplishments.- passed clayton anti-trust act (could break up monopolies)- labor unions were given the right to exist.- strikes, boycotts, picketing etc became legal.- federal trade commission was established in 1914. investigated companies for monopolistic practices.- underwood tariff drastically cut tariff rates for the first time since sthe civil war.- sixteenth amendment was ratified in 1913 allowing for a graduated income tax.- federal reserve system:strengthened banks.allowed for a way to control the amount of money in circulation.broke the country into 12 districts with each having one federal reserve bank.- 17th, 18th and 19t amendments were passed during his term:direct election of senators (1913)prohibition (1919).
