Today un US History we talked about President Woodrow Wilson. Woodrow Wilson was a progressive president from 1913 to 1920. He passed the Clayton Anti-Trust Act in 1914. The Clayton act broke up monoplies and gave Labor Unions rights to exist. Strikes, picketing, boycotts etc became legal. The Federal Trade Commission was established in 1914 also.The 17th, 18th, and 19th amendments were passed during his term. those amendments are The Direct Election of Senetors, Prohibition, Women's Vote. Led US during WW1. African Amercians were mostly ignored by Wilson, Rossevelt and Taft and the Progressive Movement. Wilson reinstated segregation in Washington DC.Tariffs are taxes on imports. The Underwood Tariff cut tariff rates for the first time since the Civil War. The 16th amendment was passed in 1913 which allowed a graduated income tax. The federal Reserve System strengthened banks, and allowed for a way to control the amount of $ in circulation. It also broke the country into 12 districts with each having a federal reserve bank which was a banker's bank and are still around today.1. Why do countries colonize?to make money, to establish naval bases, to get natural resources, to uplift, civilize and Christianize people, for power and prestige throughout the world, gain land for possible colonies, opens markets throughout the world-trade, refueling stations.
