Today in class we went through Mr. Bruns' ch 9 powerpoint. Teddy Roosevelt was a good president who the political machine in his city appointed him as VP to get rid of him. He however became president and wanted to give everyone a square deal. He used the bully pulpit to influence media and the people. I learned that the teddy bear was named after him after he freed a caught bear that he was hunting.11. Elkins Act- no rebates for rich and Hepburn Act- set max rates on railroads.9.What did the progressives do to make food and drugs safer for the people of the United States?Upton Sinclair wrote a book on how bad the meat industry was. The Meat Inspection Act made it so meat was inspected so nothing disgusting went into meat. Pure Food and Drug Act required that labels be put on food and drugs so that people knew what they were getting.What did progressives (TR) do to help conserve land and resources in our country?Newlands Act-1902- sold western land and made dams which allowed for irrigation so they could be farmed.
