Prior to the pure food and drug act medicine contained cocaine, morphine, and a plasebo pill, which was just pure sugar. Meat inspection Act of 1906 was enforced to protect the American diet. The FDA(food and drug administration) inspected the meat and drugs.The Jungle was a book about how meat was made. It made all of its readers sick to their stomachs. When meat was being made rats, poison, spit, and other things were getting mixed with meat.-What did progressives (TR) do to help conserve land and resources in our country?Conservation is the protecting of lands and resources. In the mid 19th century nobody cared about the land. They thought they would have natural resources forever. Yellowstone National Park was the first National Park. Arbor day was started in 1872, "tree planting day." The Timber Culture Act in 1873 granted settlers 160 acres of land, but people had to plant trees on 1/4 of the land for ten years. The American Forestry Association emphasized the appreciation of protecting trees. In 1930 three national parks were made. Roosevelt became president on 1901 and his speech talked about the conservation of land.-What did progressives do to regulate businesses in the United States?Laizze Faire, business's did as they please.
