Today we finished up the talks.Describe the major social changes that affected women during the Progressive Era.Before women couldn't vote or really anything other than working around the house and taking care of the children. The progressives helped women to get an education and get better jobs. They also worked on getting the right to vote 19th ammendment gave this to them. These women also supported Prohibition. Title 9 Act allowed women to equal access to sports in schools. Then Mr. Bruns talked about the ones that we didn't hit. What is segregation? What did progressives do to help African Americans?Seperation of people by race. Plessy v Ferguson set up segregation. Brown v the Board of Education of Topeka Kansas started to desegregate people. Progressives really didn't help with segregation. Woodrow Wilson promised to help blacks to get their vote and then segregated DC.I learned how the small percent of the population who were rich during this time really controlled the markets and kinda the government too.Eugene V Debbs ran for president 5 times. He was a hardcore socialist and he wanted to have all the people get the same amount of money. Socialism is where the government controls businesses and Debbs kinda started it in the US.
