Today in class we worked on blog talks I went first. We talked about how the federal reserve system allowed banks to get loans to keep them alive and going. It preserved the value of the dollar.Describe the impact aid organizations had on our country. Before there really wasn't anything at all. Then the settlement houses came along to help the poor. YMCA's along to help youth and other people and soup kitchens help to feed the hungry. Most of these are still around today with the addition of mental institutes and other helping organizations.What/who were muckrakers and what impact did they have on our country?Muckrakers were investigative journalists who exposed businesses who were trying to form monopolies or anyone who was causing a problem in society. They are still around today but they aren't called that but they aren't as common.Ida Tarbel wrote a book on the standard oil company. Rockefeller was securing high freight rates on oil and getting rid of competition so oil stayed high.Lincoln Stepphens wrote articles on corruption in different cities of the US. He kinda looked at the big picture corruption in the big cities.Upton Cinclaire wrote a book on the corruption in sanitary in the meat packing plants. This is all that we did today.
