What did progressives do to help workers reduce the number of hours they had to work?-before; alot of child labor, long working hours. alot of people got sick from working through fatigue. usually breathing in harmful chemicals. 15 hour work days. Mueller vs. Oregan Act was a case against some guy who was a laundry man and he had one of his women working worked over ten hours and he thought that she was working for him and she should have to work his hours or quit... today; laws vary by state. typicall eight hour work days. depends on the job title. if you make salary you get paid on how much you work.5. What is women’s suffrage?-before; women were known as second class citizens. weren't allowed to sign contracts, own property or anything. didnt think it was fair for african american men being able to vote before them..."a slap in the face"...What approaches did women use to gain the right to vote?-three prong stategie= first, they tried to convince 8 legislatures to give women the right to vote in their state. second, tried to test it through the court. third, key attempt. focused on national ammendment. fourty some years they really pushed for this national ammendment. the 19th ammendment allows women to vote. women pushed for their voting, and also prohibition. today; women have to right to vote and no differences between men, women, and african americans.7. What did progressives do to bring about better wages for workers?-before; they had harsh conditions, low pay. most families spent more then what men could bring home. children and women were forced to work. minimum wage laws in 1940s, some states earlier. factory people during the progressive era, women had to fight for better pay. men were paid more. Henry Ford, five dollar day, eight hours a day system.
