Today is Monday. We began presenting.1.) What did the Progressives do to make the workplace safer? Progressives worked hard to better the workplace for workers in many ways. Before the help of the Progressives, people would commonly get injured on the job and not get any help or benefits from the company or wherever it was that they worked. The Progressives implemented workers compensation. Workers compensation made it possible for people to get money and be supported when they got injured. The company was forced to pay the worker who got injured enough to support them until they were able to work again. They would also have to pay the families of workers who died on the job. OSHA was a government sponsored agency that had the power to shut down a company that it deemed unsafe for workers.2.) What did the Progressives do to help end or reduce child labor? The number of children working grew to extreme heights in the years leading up to the Progressive Era. Children could perform smaller tasks for less pay. Children at ages as little as four years old were earning wages. Many of these children were injured by working many hours every day. They would become fatigued quickly, and some suffered from stunted growth. The African Americans were considered the lowest of the low in society. Black people could not run for public office, except within their black communities. Black people could very rarely interact with the white commnity. Buses, drinking fountains, swimming pools, barber shops, markets, schools, churches, and many many other things were segregated. Black children and adults had to go to their own schools, and they even had to drink out of separate drinking fountains. Blacks were often lynched (hanged) for violating any of these laws.9.)
