Alaska- We bought Alaska from Russia in 1867. It increased America's land mass by 20%. Alaska hit a gold rush in 1897. Less than 4000 stuck gold. Hawaii- in 1 Pres. 893, American colonists controlled the sugar economy and they overthrew the kingdom and established the Republic of Hawaii. US marines stormed the island and overthrew the queen without the presidents permission. Pres. Grover Clevland thought it was wrong and unannexed Hawaii. The pres. Mckinley took it again however. Russo-Japenese war- Russia and Japan were fighting to find out who would control Korea and Manchuria. Japan won and Russia handed all claims over to Korea. Theodore roosevelt helped stop the war and come to agreements.

We presented. Test - It's short answer. What did the progressives do to make our country better? Helped farmers, helped woman by getting rid of alcohol so they wouldnt get beaten by drunk husbands.
