1890's men's fashion- 3-piece suits, vests, ties

Fads: Boards games- more free time, for education and religious purposes. Bells and Bears were very popular; Bikes- "Safety bicycle"- transportation, Wright brothers, Van Clove

Inventions- Jukebox (Louis T. Glass, Albert K. Keller. Escalator. Shredded wheat- cereal, tractor, gas powered.

World Fairs- Trans-Mississippi Exposition- 1898- Omaha- 5 months long- development of east coast.

Famous People- Thomas Edison- invented light bulb- patent

Presidential Election- Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison- both second term- Cleveland won popular vote but lost electoral vote. Had a rematch and Cleveland won both

Wednesday- Continue presentations- my group presented

Thursday- Continue presentation- my group finished presenting

1910's-

Music- ragtime was fading, pop was becoming popular, still listened to jazz, 1918- first time national anthem was sang at sporting events

Movies- The Scarecrow of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes, Jack and the Beanstalk

Sports- baseball and boxing were big, tennis, horseback racing, hockey was coming around, first Indicator 500 race- 1911, 1912- Fenway Park came around Jesse Owens- 1913, Jackie Robinson born 1919, 1919 Chicago White Sox Scandal, 1919 Green Bay packers established. 1914- Babe Ruth debuted

Fashion- Women's pair of shoes costed $3.79, now they average some $40 per pair, men dressed up in suit, dress pants, hats.

Fads- Ballroom dances, ankle-long dresses, movies became huge, crossword puzzles

Inventions- Zippers, Oreo Cookies, Military Tanks (not very well made...), Bras, Stainless Steel, Electric Pop-up Toaster, Escalators, Lincoln Logs, Lifesavers Candy

World's Fairs- Panama-California Exposition, 1915, last one of the decade- WWI

Famous people- Henry Ford 1913 Assembly Line, Wright Brothers 1910, William H. Taft- 27th President, Albert Einstein- 1915, General Theory of Relativity

Presidential Elections- Wilson, Roosevelt, Taft

Civil Rights- Women's Right to Vote, Segregation

Facts- about 5% unemployment, Life Expectancy: Male: 48, Female: 52, The Debt started this decade, 1.15 billion, 14% of homes had bathrooms, about 8000 cars with only 144 miles of paved roads, speed limits and traffic lights came around, milk was 32 cents per gallon, had the milkman, women only washed their hair once a month. Only 6% of high schoolers graduated, 20% of adults were illiterate, daylight savings time came around

Friday- talk about semester test, start chapter 7-8, assignment
