Today in class we got time to work on our assigned blog post for the week. We had to find something in a different chapter that interested us. I chose Angel Island. First i read the little paragraph that was in the book about it. Then i researched it on the internet. This is what i found in the book. Angel Island is where the Asians, mainly the Chinese, arrived to enter America. Angel Island is on the west coast in the San Francisco Bay. We were way tougher on the Chinese than the Europeans. They were different than us, they spoke a different language and we wanted to make sure they wouldn't betray us.I also learned how stiff laws were passed about immigration. To be accepted into America the Chinese had to already have family members living in America as citizens. There were many Chinese that would pay people to act as their family so they could qualify for citizenship. You also had to have a family. Many immigrants would pretend to be family so they could get in. The Chinese went throught tough questioning and they were detained some for almost as long as a year. The buildings they lived in were in very poor conditions. The Chinese would carve poems into the walls of their struggle.
