Today we did our blog discussions. Andrea did hers on the challenges of urbanization. The major issues were fires, floods, and sanitary issues. They didn't have a lot of water to wash themselves. The water was dirty anyway. She also talked about the Great Chicago Fire. It burned for more than 24 hours and left so many people homeless. The police departments and fire departments were not very good at the time either.Megan did hers on Ellis Island. This is where all the immigrants would come before they could be accepted into America. They would be put through tests to see if they had any diseases, because they didn't want any new diseases spreading into America. They only had to send back 2 % of the immigrants. They would be questioned on how much money they had or if they could work. They also had to take an IQ test and if they weren't smart enough they were also sent back. If women came to American on their own they had to be escorted because there was a fear that women without any family or husbands would become prostitutes. These were the two blog discussions that i found most interesting.
