Today people continued testing and we had a free day to work on our blogs. Even though prohibition was the 18th amendment, people still had private bars and speakasies, which were places underground were people gathered to drink. A lot of the alcohol was smuggled in from Canada. People still brewed wines and such at home. Whiskey could be givin to you as a prescription for medical issues. Doctors usually wouldn't ask, they would give it out a lot. Many people got their alcohol this way. Even important people in the government drank alcohol illegally. They did this because the 18th amendment didn't say you couldn't drink it, it just said you couldnt make it or sell it. If you had made alcohol before the 18th amendment was passed you could sell it.Wineries could sell wines to places that were going to use them for religious purposes. Many people started organizations to repeal the 18th amendment. As the years went on more and more people wanted to. By 1932, on estimate, 46 states favored repeal. In 1933 they started the 21st amendment which repealed the 18 amendment. The 21st amendment let states decide whether to keep prohibition or not. Some states still had it. But, by 1966, all states had repealed any prohibition law.
