Today Mrs.Bryan talked about our chapter 9 projects. I guess we have to do a slideshow about it and our blog this week has to be about what we learned. I am a little confused on what it is exactly. My topic for the presentation is segregation. Mr.Bruns put up starter things on the webpage to help us get started on research and stuff. Then he started testing. I didn't go today. :) I am very happy for that because I was not ready. I just answered the questions in chapter 5 and 6.Ch. 5.1:-Describe Native American culture.each tribe had like their own god and they respected nature and the earth. They used all of the bufflo they never left anything.-Why did settlers/people move to the Great Plains?for land and gold.-Do did the US gov't deal with Native Americans in the mid to late 1800's? What were their policies?they set up reservations-Describe a cowboy's life.they had to work 10-14 hours a day 6 days a week.Ch. 5.2:-How did railroads and the Homestead Act help settle the Great Plains?they helped make everyone have land-What challenges did settlers face on the Great Plains?their houses would leak and they lived like in the side of a hill. the women had to work-What problems did farmers face on the Great Plains?they went in debtCh. 5.3:-What problems did farmers face on the Great Plains?they went in debt.-Who were the Populists and what did they believe in?they were common people who wanted laws to benefit them and not the rich.Ch. 6.1:-What caused the Industrial revolution to really take off in the late 1800's?the oil and the invention of steel-What were some new inventions in the late 1800's and what affect did they have on people's lives?the telephone, typewriter, and they made the lightbulb better.Ch. 6.2:-What impact did railroads have on the US?they made the country smaller and made it easier to travel goods and stuff-Why were many people upset with the railroads?because they charged way to much-What did the Grangers or government do to regulate the railroads?they made laws that the railroads had to be fair with the prices and they had a minumun and maximum price limit.Ch. 6.3:-Tell me about Andrew Carnegie.he had a big steel company-Tell me about John D. Rockefeller.he had a big oil company-What was Social Darwinism and how did it apply to business?-Explain how companies formed monopolies(vertical/horizontal integration, trusts).one company would make thier prices really low and make the other companies go bankrupt. the one company would then buy all the other companies and then make their prices go really high-How did the government try to regulate business?they set a minumun of what you could charge-What are labor unions and what is their purpose?they were a group of commoners and they tried to get jobs or make them fairWere labor unions successful in achieving their goals? Explain/Give examples.they werent at first but later they became a little succesful.
