Today we had shortened class periods because of advisor. My topic for chapter 9 is prohibition. (*Prohibition – WCTY, Francis Willard, Anti-Saloon League, Carry Nation) The internet was extremely slow, so it was hard to research on my topic, and the book has very little information on this topic.http://americanhistory.about.com/od/prohibitionera/a/prohibition.htmProhibition was a time in American history from 1920 to 1933 when the sales, transportation, and manufacturing of aclohol were bannd. People mainly blamed crime and health issues on aclohol. But, because of the banning of alcohol, this brought the crime ratings up a lot. People were starting secret clubs to drink alcohol illegally. In the 1830's the temperance movement was started. The Temperance Movement was an organization of people who wanted to press for complete abstinence. The temperance movement started in the mid-1800's.The first members of the movement were mainly women. The first temprerance group was started by farmers in Connecticut in 1789. Many groups like this one started in other states. In 1874 the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was created, which lead to the Anit-Saloon League in 1895. These groups pushed for the issue of prohibition in the election process.http://pathwayscourses.samhsa.gov/ev/ev_supps_pg1.htm
