Today Mrs. Bryan talked about our next project. Its going to be over chapter nine. There are 19 different topics to choose from and each person chooses one. Nobody can do the same topic. Brandon presented today too, his was over Chapter 8 Section 4 the Dawn of Mass Culture.American Leisure was middle class Americans were getting sick of life basically. Site seeings were starting to get set up in the 1900's. William R. Hearst wrote about exaggerated stories. He did this so people would read his newspaper and he tried to run other business' out of buisness. Coney Island was an amusement park in Brookelyn. George Tilyo was the creator of this amusement park. Many people would go here to have fun or to let loose. Coca-Cola was first a type of wine used the cure headachs. They changed it to be non-alcoholic drink.Danielle was sick and she had 8-2 Expanding Public Education, so she presented today.Kindergartens really got bigger within twenty years. In the 1940's kindergartens were opened up for blacks. High schools prepared males for drafting, carpentry, and mechanics. It prepared females for office work. In 1871 7.6 million attended high schools and in 1920 21.6 million attended high schools. In 1910 only about 3% of African Americans attended high schools. Most would drop out. Between 1880 and 1920 the number of students attending colleges qaudrupled. But still most students did not go on to college untill the 70's and 80's. The Niagra Movement in 1905 was a movement lead by W. E. B. Du Bois. He thought that blacks should have better education, so their leaders would be highly educated.
