Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James Garfield, Chester Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison, Grover Cleveland and William Mckinley were all presidents during the late 1800's. Were they a reform president or a status quo president?Problems in the in the cities are cramped old and dirty housing. Lack of good transport. Lack of safe drinking water. They had slum buildings and had lines to hand there clothes out to dry. Some of them where telphone wires. They had fire escapes because they had alot of fires. The insides were small and cramped. They were small and had more than one family in the houses. They had ratts that would bite and may kill the little kids and infants. They help spread the dieseaes and many sick people. They used brick instead of wood to help spread out the city and make it larger.There was a lot of corruption in the gov. Boss Will was the head of the polictical machine in New York City. It would run the day to day for that party. It was all done by the political machine. He was never the maior but had more power. He did a lot iof positive things for immigrants. He gave them houses and food to help them out. THey helped them get a job iuntern they voted for the person they are going for. They built parks and schools to help them out. The kick back system was were they had money to keep people shut up and had them lotalty. They gave jobs to people that they would vote for them. They gave them the jobs in the goverment. They were out to steal money from the goverment. THey werre disownest people that stole money from the goverment.The rich usally were the dominant the people below them. The pendlonton civil act you had to take a test to make sure that you were worhty to take the place in the goverment. Some presidents tryed to get our country back to where the rich dont rule but then it didnt work out to well.
