Today Nick and Amanda did their presentations over chapter 8 section 1.What advances in science and technology help solve urban problems?Bridges helped connect cities and it was easier to travel. They started using steel becuse it was more durable, because of this they started building skyscrapers. Skyscrapers were better because they went up instead of out, that made it so cities weren't as crowded. Electric street cars were better too, so people could live far away. Literacy rates went up, so the demand for books, newpapers, and magazines went up.I gave my presentation today. Mine was chapter 8 section 2. The question in my section was...How did education change in the late 1800's and early 1900's?In the 1800's some schools were one room school houses and they didn't seperate different ages. Children from 4 to 18 could be in the same class. Kindergartens increased a lot from the 1800's to the 1900's. In the early 1900's high schools started. African Americans persued higher education and started many universities.
