By 1932 two thrids of the land had been taken away from Native Americans. The settlers nearly wiped out the Buffalo, they killed 65 million buffalo. Cattle was big business in the US, a cowboy usually worked 10-12 hours a day. A long drive was 3 months typically. They normally slept on the ground and had a cook in a chuck wagon. As overgrazing continued, barbed wire was made. Open Range is middle america. It was very hard work. The Texas Longhorn adapted well in the United States.
