Chapter 8 Section 2 - Expanding Public Education...Immigrants wanted to retain their ethnic backgrounds. Catholics sought a special education for their children. Parents wanted their kids to grow up catholics. High school attendence was high, but few were getting their diplomas. People weren't moving on to college. Economy demanded more people having high school diplomas. Boom of college admiddions and new curricula. The end of Civil War sparked a movement for education for blacks. The Freedmens Bureau was a group or organized men who were freed black men who tried to get funding for schooling systems for African Americans. Funding was poor. Booker T. Washington W.E.B Du Bois were important people involved in the Desegregation Action. This empasized on skills. W.E.B. Du Bois was like a Malcomn X.
