Today we discussed our blogs. Nathan did his on John Deere. John Deere was born in Rutland, Vermont and he was not very wealthy growing up. He had little education so noboday wanted to apprentice him. So he first apprenitced for his mother in 1821. In 1825 he tried to start his own business in Vermont, but it didn't last. Then he tried to start one in Illinois. He discovered that you should use steel instead of iron because the praries soil was so hard. He was the first to use steel. This was the first plow to actually work in the praries. After this success he founded Deere & Company. It is now the largest international company to sell agriculture equipment.April did hers on the San Francisco earthquake. The earthquake hit northern California on Wednesday, April 18, 1906. The earthquake was felt from Los Angeles to Oregon and even in Nevada. The earthquake caused many fires as well. There was a total of 3,000 deaths. Many people went homeless after all of the destruction of the earthquake. About 300,000 people were left homeless out of 410,000. Because of all the homeless people armies set up camps. People could live in these camps for $2 a month.
