Today is Monday, and is my sister's birthday. She's 24. :)Josh did 6.2, the same as me, and the railroads created time zones and caused problems for the farmers. Railroad companies gave away unused land to seperate companies instead of giving the land back to the farmers. Greg did 8.4 and there were people that were in the city that weren't exposed to adventerous things like the people that outside of the cities. Ferris Wheels and other forms of amusement park rides were built on the outside of towns. The arrival of entertainment started in the late 1800's. These amusement park rides made the cities beautify themselves and attracted more people. Erin's guy was born in a really small town in Scottland. His family was really poor and moved to America and they had to borrow money in order for this to happen. He eventually became the second famous man when he started making money with steel industries. With the money he made from the steel companies he built museums. His name was Andrew.Trace Timmerman showed his presentation on Chapter 6 Section 1 today. This section was on The Expansion of Industry.---Black gold was oil and oil was first used by Native Americans for medicine. First settlers used it for Kerosene Lamps. Edwin L. Drake first successfully used a steam engine drill for oil near Titusville, Pennsylvania. Oil boom is like any other boom. This first boom hit Kentucky and many other surrounding states. Iron was a bitter metal used early for railroads, bridges, girders etc. Thomas Edison worked on perfecting the light bulb and the radio. Made many versions of light bulbs, many failed. Christopher Soles invented the typewriter and changed the way letters were written. Alexander Graham Bell created the telephone. Started with only the seven numbers. Made the world much more smaller and united.-What caused the Industrial revolution to really take off in the late 1800's?> Oil and Steel availability. Oil to fuel, Steel to make things. Inventions like theTypewriter, Electric Lightbulb, Telephone,-What were some new inventions in the late 1800's and what affect did they have on people's lives?> The Lightbulb allowed businessed to work 24 hours a day. bringing in more jobs (night shifts) ... Natural Resources helped industry boom.We had immigration that increased in laborization. Immigrants worked for little pay for long hours. Cities began to grow because of job opportunities. If there had been a minimum wage during these days, the industrial revolution may not have happened so quickly. Captians of Industry allowed businesses to happen. We have to give some thanks to these "rich guys." They also took advantage of the "little guy", or the poor people.
