Today we started our section presentations. Nelson went first. He had chapter 5-1 Cultures Clash on the Prairie. White people thought indians were savages. The horse and buffalo greatly affected the native americans.Kids learned through story telling and urban legends. Land wasnt kept in seperate families it was kinda owned by everybody. The settlers took the land because they didnt think the indians owned it because they didnt do anything to improve it. Government wanted to assimilate native americans which would be trying to make them like white people. The Dawes Act gave land to indivvidual Native Americans, land that had been broken up off reservations. gave 168 acres of land to natives and white people ended up stealing the land back and native americans werent used to owning land.
