Today in our class we continued our Republican/Democrat debates with the topics of the Death penalty, Gay Marriage, and ending with Prayer in School. I felt that prayer in school was the least contested with personal opinions, and then followed by gay marriage with the death penalty being the most contested in my opinion. Most people in our class felt that the republicans are right by saying that the death penalty is not too cruel of a punishment for the severest of crimes. I also believe this, but some people felt that it is cruel because people can change and it costs too much money to convict them of a death penalty than a life in prison conviction. This is not true because many people don’t have to go through that many appeals and are on deaths row with not near that much cost.I personally felt that too many people didn’t have a problem with gay marriage. I really don’t see a problem with gay couples, besides the fact that it’s just plain disgusting, but marriage is a sacred word that only man-woman couples should have. And apparently no one in 3rd hour thinks the same way.Prayer in school seemed to have no contest in personal opinions. Everyone wanted to have some sort of “personal time” for the students to discuss their own personal beliefs but not to have teachers interfere with their opinions. This is the Republicans opinion more often than it would be the democrats opinion. My question is this, do the democrats believe religion is bad or being religious is bad?
