- Records of olympics datre to 776 BC and lasted until 393 AD when Romans ended them

- Lasted one day at first but eventually extended to five days

- Happened every four years-an olympiad

- Started as a tribute to Zeus and has amythological origin

- The modern olympic games started up again in 1896 in Athens

Olympic Legend

- According to legend, it was Hercules who first called the games "olympic" and established the custom of holding them every four years

- After Hercules completed his twelve labors, he built the Olympic Stadium in honor of zeus

- Fowllowing its competition, Hercules walked in a straight line for 200 steps and called this distance "stadion"

- Long jump
