Great Civilizations discussed first semester:

Ancient Greece - 500 BC - 600 AD

Persian Empire - 530 BC - 330 BC

Roman Republic - 27 BC - 476 AD went to war

Byzantine Empire - Split from Roman Empire in 395 AD - 1453 taken over by the Autumnin Empire

Mongolian Empire - 1200's - 1300's struggled controlling land they took over. Took over lots of land

The High and Late Middle Ages

The Middle Ages lasted roughly 500 AD - 1500 AD

The term medieval simply means "of or relating to the Middle Ages"

The Dark Ages was the period in Western Europe between 500 (the fall of Rome) and 1000 AD.

It was called the Dark Ages because the Vikings and Magyars raided Western Europe and destroyed all the buildings the Roman Empire built. People because uneducated.

Vikings were based in Scandinavia and invaded land.

Christianity Review:

The Age of Faith : Lots of new churches were built during this time. Helped Europe get out of the Dark Ages. Religion played a role in pushing education.
