Thursday - Talked about Obama and Trump

Friday - Presentations

Prohibition - 

- 18th amendment

- the banning of alcohol

- selling, transporting, and manufacturing

- many people weren't okay with this

Al Capone - 

- started in New York

- became the most well known Chicago gangster

- he would beat up people who would not repay loans as a young man

- during a bar fight he got a razor blade to the face, ie his nickname "Scarface"

- he met Mae Caughlin who he later had a son with. His name was Albert Francis Capone

- in 1919 Capone left Brooklyn for Chicago

- joined the five point gang, quickly moved up the ranks

- Capone found himself in charge of bootlegging, illegally supplying alcohol

- Capone protected business by wars on rivals gangs

- he was arrested for tax fraud and served 10 years

- also he served in Alcatraz

- suffered from syphilis 

- he was released on parole in 1939 because he was so weak 

Women's Rights and Freedoms in the 1920's

- all women got the right to vote in 1920

- flappers were girls who listened to jazz, smoked, drank, and became sexually liberated. This did not mean they were prostitutes.
