Estefania Liset Mosquera Alcivar, a 21 year old from Ecuador, was found dead early Friday morning. Alcivar was a park concession employee at Yellowstone National Park. According to the National Park Service, the woman was socializing with a group of co-workers at the park's Grandview Point Trail. It is then believed that she fell over the cliff edge and into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River, where her body was later found. However, the incident is still under investigation.
Park rangers said that the fall is not survivable, as the canyon is anywhere from 800 to 1,200 feet deep. Yellowstone National Park's website urges visitors to be cautious on the area's rim trails.
Questions
Do you think Alcivar simply fell, or do you think there is more to the story? Why?
If she fell, do you think Yellowstone National Park should be doing something more to prevent things like this from happening? If so, what?
My Opinion
I think that it is more likely than not that there is more to the story than her simply "falling." Although an accident is possible, I believe that Alcivar would've been more cautious around this area, especially since she works at the park.
I definitely think Yellowstone should be placing fences around areas that are extremely dangerous. Although the park has warnings on their website and warning signs throughout the park, I still feel like more should be done to prevent deaths.

Great job Kara!
I don't think she just simply fell over the edge by accident because she was park official and would have known all safety rules and responses. It could be possible that it was just an accident, but i think she would have known where not to be. I think that all safety issues should be fixed and have signs explain where they are. I think that fences should surround any place in the park where people could fall.
I feel that something happened here and it wasn't her slipping and falling. Accident happen all the time but she works at Yellowstone and she knows the dangers and would not be messing around near the edge and slip. I think their was some kind of argument that went to far. I think if it was an accident Yellowstone could be sued and will have to put up barriers between people and the cliffs.
I think it's more possible than not that something more happened. You have a good point! Yellowstone could get into some serious law troubles if they don't do anything about this.
I think there is more to this store like you here about all these falling's all the time and there is usually more to it like someone pushed them or they step to close to the edge. So I think there is more to this story. I think they should do something so nobody else will fall or get hurt. Like put up a fence like because you can put up all these signs and nobody fallows them.
What you say about people not following signs is definitely true! I think that fencing would prevent people from dangers better than signs would.
I think maybe she was too comfortable with the park after being an employee there so she forgot about the dangers that were there. I don't think anyone would've pushed her because by now, someone would've snitched or eye witness stories wouldn't match up. It's pretty much impossible to make cover up an incident like that with multiple people involved and trying to make their stories match up completely. Personally, I think either she fell or tripped and then fell, something along those lines.
In Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, there are barriers and walls everywhere, especially along the mountain roads. I'm actually surprised that there wasn't some sort of barrier there if it was a touristy spot. I guess it's to preserve nature and keep everything as close to natural as possible, but there's a point where you have to decide between safety and natural beauty. In my opinion, safety should win every time.
Being too comfortable is definitely a possibility. You have a good point in saying that someone would've come forward with information by now if it was anything other than an accident. I can see why the park doesn't want to put up more fences, to preserve the beauty of the park, but I agree when you say that safety should always win!
I feel like she maybe was just not paying attention and lost her balance or stepped backward and just fell off. Yes, I definitely think they should be doing something about this. Like put up higher railings or put more signs up or anything to help prevent this from happening again..
An accident is very possible! It's very tragic though! I agree when you say they need to be doing more, otherwise Yellowstone may lose popularity.
