As I am slowly counting down the days to summer, I wonder what woud happen if we did not have summer. Personally, I would go insane. Many people believe that year-round school is like having no summer; you are just always at school. I found this not to be true, though, and to me, year-round school does not seem that bad.
In the school system, we have now we have about 78 days off from school. 60 are for summer vacation, 5 for spring break, 10 for winter break, and 3 for thanksgiving break; this does not include weekends. In year-round school, they have 30 days off for summer break, 15 days off for spring break, 15 days off for winter break, 3 days for Thanksgiving break, and 15 days for fall break. In total, they also have 78 days off from school, not including weekends.
There is a lot of controversy about this topic, though. Many people believe if you only give students 30 days off, they will not have time to go on vacation, go to camps, or get summer jobs. Some also say that too many breaks are not suitable for education. On the other hand, some people say there is still time to go on vacation or go to different camps. They also argue that having these different breaks is just what students need. It prevents the summer from getting long and tedious and makes sure students do not get burnt out in the winter. Year-round school also allows students to learn more because teachers do not have to spend as much time reviewing.
Since I am used to the schedule, we have now. I think it would be hard to switch to a whole new plan. I do see the benefits to year sound school. Usually, in the winter and fall, I am ready for school to be over, so I think having a break would be a great thing to look forward to. I do not know how sports would work with the breaks in the middle of the season. I think I could get used to a year-round schedule, and I see it becoming more popular in the future.
How would you feel about having year round school?
Do you know anyone who goes to a year round school?
What do you think is the biggest positive and negitive to year round school?

Honestly, I think this could be a good idea. However, I feel on the last day is when we are free. We don't feel stressed or overwhelmed. With no summer break, I feel kids wouldn't try as hard because they woud constantly be tired. I personally look forward to the summer and wouldn't want to give it up.
I also think this could be a good idea. I like the idea of having more breaks because then we won't get as tired. There is still 30 days of summer but I like our long summer break we have now.
I do not know how to feel about there being a shorter summer. I've always liked a long break because I'm burnt out from school. But I also see the good things about a year-long school because you will not forget things during the long summer break. I still prefer the long summer break.
I do not think school should be all year round. I think our schedule right now is good, we get a long summer break and still get breaks for other holidays. I do think that school should end a little sooner, May 28 is kind of late. It would be nice to have even breaks, but I like our schedule better.
I agree that May 28 is really late for school to get out. I am ready for school to be out right now!!
I do think it would benice to know all your breaksare pretty even, but summer is what everyone looks forward too and is students "time off." Knowing that we don't have that consecutive time off doesn't make it seem like something to look forward too.
I would absolutely hate it, I already think that school is a waste of time and money so there is no point in going year-round, a lot of people would agree with me as well. I like our schedule as is right now, but I think that we should have a longer summer break as well and end school in early May or around middle of May.
I also think that school should end early May or more in the middle of May. It is crazy the last day of school is May 28.
Based on the the graphs, year-round school seems like a great idea and one that could potentially improve student learning conditions. However, I'm not sure if it would be as beneficial in practice. There are other countries, like Australia and Japan, that use a year-round school model and it seems to work for them, but due to America's predispostion to resist change, I'm not sure it would work here.
Looking at the graphs, it does seem a bit ridiculous that we have such a long summer break and the school year and breaks we have now aren't really balanced at all. With the year-round school, everything is much more balanced out and I feel like everyone here is so opposed to the idea of year-round school because no one is used to it here, but with it becoming a much more popular concept, we may have to get used to it. There are certainly benefits to year-round school and downsides to it, but overall I feel like it could be a good thing for everyone.
