As I am slowly counting down the days to summer, I wonder what woud happen if we did not have summer. Personally, I would go insane. Many people believe that year-round school is like having no summer; you are just always at school. I found this not to be true, though, and to me, year-round school does not seem that bad.
In the school system, we have now we have about 78 days off from school. 60 are for summer vacation, 5 for spring break, 10 for winter break, and 3 for thanksgiving break; this does not include weekends. In year-round school, they have 30 days off for summer break, 15 days off for spring break, 15 days off for winter break, 3 days for Thanksgiving break, and 15 days for fall break. In total, they also have 78 days off from school, not including weekends.
There is a lot of controversy about this topic, though. Many people believe if you only give students 30 days off, they will not have time to go on vacation, go to camps, or get summer jobs. Some also say that too many breaks are not suitable for education. On the other hand, some people say there is still time to go on vacation or go to different camps. They also argue that having these different breaks is just what students need. It prevents the summer from getting long and tedious and makes sure students do not get burnt out in the winter. Year-round school also allows students to learn more because teachers do not have to spend as much time reviewing.
Since I am used to the schedule, we have now. I think it would be hard to switch to a whole new plan. I do see the benefits to year sound school. Usually, in the winter and fall, I am ready for school to be over, so I think having a break would be a great thing to look forward to. I do not know how sports would work with the breaks in the middle of the season. I think I could get used to a year-round schedule, and I see it becoming more popular in the future.
How would you feel about having year round school?
Do you know anyone who goes to a year round school?
What do you think is the biggest positive and negitive to year round school?

Personally, I think that I would like year round school more. There is more balance to your life rather than just school all the time. Currently, I am struggling to stay motivated for school. With year round school I think that it would be easier to stay motivated because there are more breaks throughout your year.
During the school year I struggle to stay motivated and contuine to get good grades. I would like the breaks thought the seasons.
I dont think we should have year round school. Kids are in school from august to may and they need a break after all that. The school year is long and tireing and have a couple months to not have to worry about school and all the hastles that come with it is needed. Summer makes time for families to go on vaction and spend time together.
I honestly really like how the school calendar is right now, I personally feel like I need those months of vacation during the summer. It might be good to have more breaks during the other months but I prefer having them all together. There's a school in Italy that has only a bit more than a month during the summer and then they have more breaks than us for the rest of the year.
I also need the months of vacation during the summer. It gives you time to get away from all the stress and just enjoy the nice wealther.
I don't think we should have year-round school. Kids would have constant stress with school all year round. We have been used to this system for our entire lives, and students need a long break once a year. We need to time to enjoy the sun and go on vacations without knowing that when we come back to school we will have homework.
That is a good point. Students need time to enjoy summer and not have to worry about homework and just enjoy the nice weather.
I don't think that year round school is a good idea at all. This school year has felt so long and I don't think I could every do it all day everyday. I look forward to my summer vacation because it's hot outside, okoboji, swimming and so many more things. So I would never want year round school.
I agree, during the summer the wealther is amazing so I would not want to spend it inside.
I would hate it because we need break from school and not just weekends because school can be stressful and make a lot of people not want to go. I don't know anyone who goes to school year round and I think that it's a good thing they don't because students don't need to be in school year long. I think the biggest positive of this would be the learning and knowledge we would get out of this the negative would be kids wouldn't be able to have jobs in the summer ecspecially if they would have sports and other things.
