Year Round School?

As I am slowly counting down the days to summer, I wonder what woud happen if we did not have summer. Personally, I would go insane. Many people believe that year-round school is like having no summer; you are just always at school. I found this not to be true, though, and to me, year-round school does not seem that bad.

In the school system, we have now we have about 78 days off from school. 60 are for summer vacation, 5 for spring break, 10 for winter break, and 3 for thanksgiving break; this does not include weekends. In year-round school, they have 30 days off for summer break, 15 days off for spring break, 15 days off for winter break, 3 days for Thanksgiving break, and 15 days for fall break. In total, they also have 78 days off from school, not including weekends.

There is a lot of controversy about this topic, though. Many people believe if you only give students 30 days off, they will not have time to go on vacation, go to camps, or get summer jobs. Some also say that too many breaks are not suitable for education. On the other hand, some people say there is still time to go on vacation or go to different camps. They also argue that having these different breaks is just what students need. It prevents the summer from getting long and tedious and makes sure students do not get burnt out in the winter. Year-round school also allows students to learn more because teachers do not have to spend as much time reviewing.

Since I am used to the schedule, we have now. I think it would be hard to switch to a whole new plan. I do see the benefits to year sound school. Usually, in the winter and fall, I am ready for school to be over, so I think having a break would be a great thing to look forward to. I do not know how sports would work with the breaks in the middle of the season.  I think I could get used to a year-round schedule, and I see it becoming more popular in the future.

How would you feel about having year round school?

Do you know anyone who goes to a year round school?

What do you think is the biggest positive and negitive to year round school?

  • Great topic and super job! +10

  • There would be benfifits from this obviesly because we are learning everyday of our life besides the weekends. But I personally think that having kids all year round is basically torture. Kids should be able to enjoy there life and days off then going to where they definietly dont want to be.

    • I agree, there would be both benfifits and disadvantages from year round school!

  • I would hate to have school all year round. It's enough to go 9 months of the year. School, especially this year, can be very stressfull, and I think that a long, consistant break is neccesary. Personally, I get burnt out after a while, and I NEED a break.

  • I think that there would be benefits from going to school all year round. But personally I think I would go insane. I think that if would be good kids could get more time in class and more time to understand stuff but i would hate it.

    • I understand why this make since, there is a equal amount of days off, but I like my summer.

  • I feel like there would be benefits to year round school like you would remeber stuff better compared to a long summer break when you come back in the fall and can hardly remember some of the things that you learned the previous year.

  • I personally feel like I'd go nuts. Although it's an equal amount of days off, Summer is the light at the end of the tunnel. Often, it's the only thing that keeps me motivated. Even though there's a break, it just wouldn't be the same. School controls my whole life during the school year. No one needs that during the Summer.

    • I like what you said " Summer is the light at the end of the tunnel" I 100% agree with this. I love summer, and how long it is!

  • I would not like to have school year round because I don't like school and I like having summer off. I do not know anyone that goes to a year round school. I think a positive to year round school is the fact that you get a lot of breaks which would be nice.
