World Pollution

According to Lung.org, “The "State of the Air '' 2021 report finds that despite some nationwide progress on cleaning up air pollution, more than 40% of Americans—over 135 million people—are living in places with unhealthy levels of ozone or particle pollution.” Pollution is a problem that is not only happening in the US but worldwide. Pollution has been a debated topic for years and seems to only increase yearly. When people think of pollution, many first think of trash and waste that is thrown into our environment, but it is much more than just trash.

The scientific definition of pollution is “The presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects.''This means that the word pollution stretches far beyond plastic bottles, and trash. Pollution consists of air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution. Air pollution is caused by several different factors such as factories, the burning of fossil fuels, exhaust, and even things like volcanoes. Many times, air pollution is invisible to the naked eye, and not talked about much. Water and land pollution seems to be talked about a little more. Water and land pollution is caused when waste and trash can find their way into our water, our jungles, forests, etc. Most of the time, the waste that enters into land and waters isn't safe and biodegradable. This means that it will forever remain to roam the world. This soon leads to many bad things happening, such as animals mistaking it for food, and dying or choking, or it getting into the ground and killing plants and grass. Same with water, many water animals mistake plastic for their food, and it kills the animals.

I believe that pollution is a huge problem that needs to be discussed. I think pollution is overlooked, and it is slowly killing our earth off. With an increase in pollution comes an increase in Global Warming. Global warming is causing the Earth's Ozone layer to thin, causing the earth to rapidly heat up. I believe that many good and useful organizations are trying to help save our earth. These organizations are saving the earth by just doing simple tasks. I believe that cleaning up our neighborhoods and local areas, recycling, walking, or driving less is helping save the world. I think that if everyone would step up and help end pollution, the air, waters, and land would all soon be clean and healthy once again.

Do you think pollution is a big deal?

If so, what can you do, or are you doing to help?

If not, why is it not it a big deal to you?

  • Pollution obviously is a big deal and the results of the pollution can be seen all around the world, obvious of them being global warming. I think over years, we are gonna have to consider it just like a rain, which might create lot of disease and extinction at certain species.

    • I agree that pollution is going to create lots of diseases inthe future.

  • I think pollution is a big deal and should be considered more in your everyday life. I'm separating the trash. I also try to use the least product I can, so I don't waste it. I feel like we should also start using materials that are better for the environment than plastic.

  • I think pollution is definitely a big deal and needs to change, otherwise, our earth is going to be destroyed. There are other things that could be used instead of plastic so there isn't that much waste. But plastic is used in so many things so I don't think that it is going to go away. There is a lot of trash to get rid of so it would be really hard to stop pollution from happeing.

    • I agree, if they ever try to get rid of plastic it will be very hard becuase there is so many plastic items.
