A Seattle woman, Heather McHugh, won $500,000 for her poems from Mac Arthur Foundation "Genius Grant". She said she didn't wanted to spend the money by herself. Then her godson and his wife had a baby with severe disabilities and she kept thinking how stressful it was to have a baby who needed help all the time. McHugh said it was obvious that someday they will need a break. She decided to create a non profit organization called "Caregifted" and used her money by awarding vacation to people who were taking of a family member for at least a decade. Heather helped Tricia Eslner who has 2 out of 3 children with autism and who said " We just need the simplest vacations". Sometimes, people just want to go out for a walk or read a book. So McHugh used the MacArthur grant money to give caregivers week-long getaways in Victoria, B.C., Maine and Napa Valley. She accompanies many of them and acts as a concierge, fulfilling their needs, playing tour guide and offering a listening ear.

What would you do with that money ?
What would you do if you ever had child with disabilities ?

Well done! Be sure to provide a link to the story.
Put half in savings and the other half to people in need. I would try to help him/her however I could.
The woman was totally unselfish. Having that much money it would be hard to react as she did. It was noble and I wish I could say I would do the same. Having a child with disabilities would be very difficult and the money would be greatly appreciated.
i would spend what needs to be done on me and the rest i would support them
I would spend some/most on me but I would pay bills. I would support them and I think it's great that someone donated to someone close to them. It's hard to live and care for a child with a disability.
I would put it towards college, and if I had a child with disabilities, I would get them the help they might need.
I would save it and probably put it towards things that I might need or maybe help some family members out if they are in debt with money. I would otherwise keep it to use when needed. If I had a child with disabilities, I would get it the care it needs and love it no matter what.
Yes, you never what going to happen in your life and maybe one day, you will need a lot of money.
If I won the lottery I would set some money aside for my future and my family, donate some to charity and invest it. If I had a child with disabilities I would do everything in my power to take care of them and love them like any other child.
I agree !
