Women Who Looked at Eclipse Suffers a Crescent Burn

Many people got to spectate the rare and beautiful eclipse. A New York Woman looked straight at the eclipse and was left with a crescent-shaped burn in her eye. She went to the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary a few days after August 21st about issues with her eyes. This burn from the eclipse has left her with blurred and distorted vision. Doctors used an adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmology to view the damage of the patients eye. This damaged occurred because she looked at the sun without eclipse glasses several times for about six seconds at a time. She was later diagnosed with solar retinopathy.

1) Would you ever look straight into a solar eclipse?

2) If you found out your glasses were faulty, what would you do?

My answers:

1) I would not look straight into the solar eclipse. By looking straight into the eclipse, it will cause permanent damage to your eyes. It is not a smart decision to look straight into the eclipse.

2) If I found out that my glasses were faulty and didn't work, I would sue the company or person that I bought the glasses from. I would also go into the eye doctor right away and make sure that I don't have any damage to my eyes.

  • If I found out my glasses were faulty I would just go and get another pair of glasses that would give me the right amount of eye protection since every store sold them for this occasion.

  • I would look straight into a solar eclipse only if I had the special glasses that I knew would protect my eyes. And if I found out my glasses were faulty then I would most liklet return them and then just not look at the eclipse or get knew glasses.

  • During the solar eclipse I did look straight at it but not more than once or for longer then a couple seconds. I think it is ridiculous that she was even able to look at it for that long at a time.

  • 1. No because obviously they hurt your eyes and damage you for life.

    2. I would be very upset and try to sue the company that made them.

  • um no i would never look into the eclipse on account of the fact i dont wanna go blind or burn my eyes out. i would probably panica and go to the doctor maybe even sue the makers of the glasses.

  • I would not look into the solar eclipse because there were warnings all over the news and I know it could permanently damage my eyes. I would be very upset and probably sue the company of the glasses, if they were faulty and I got permanent eye damage.

  • I would never look right into it because it is bad for you eyes and could damage your eyes. I would be scard that my eye sight was going to get bad. I would find out for sure if they were bad before I started to freak out,

  • No they tell you not to look directly at it because of the damage it could do so its just stupid to do the exact opposite of what they tell you to do. I would go to the eye doctor and see if anything is i would look further into the company if not i would just let them know that their glasses are faulty and see what they do from there

  • no, that is just dumb to do that. you already know what could happen. I would go get my eyes checked out so i could know if my eyes had any damage to them and if i needed to be treated for anything

  • If I knew it would turn out to be this bad probably not. I would probably try and sew the company that made them because that could ruin my life because you need your eyes for lots of things and would very likely kill you to be blind.
