Evie Amati, a 26 year-old transgender, was driven crazy by the fact that she had been rejected by her Tinder date. Amati was said to be high on cannabis, had consumed vodka, MDA, antidepressants, and transgender hormones before the attack. Amati entered a 7-Eleven, carrying an axe and went on a rampage. She started a conversation with Benjamin Rimmer, just moments later striking him in the head. She struck him in the head with the axe knocking him to the ground, he had said that if he didn't move his head last minute his head would have been cut in half. After knocking Rimmer to the ground, Amati swings twice at another customer. Amati then leaves after striking the second customer, Sharon Hacker. Mickila Jahsen, her Tinder date, reported that Amati had messaged her before the attacks saying, "One day I will kill a lot of people and it will be on you." It was also reported that Evie Amati messaged another women mentioning how most people deserved to die and that she hated people. Amati was found guilty and sentenced 9 in prison, with a non-parole period of 4 1/2 years. Many people believe that the amount of time in jail does not do any justice for her violent actions.

Questions

1. Do you think that Amati being under theinfluence of many drugs caused the violent attacks? Why or why not?

I think that the drugs pushed her over the edge, being rejected angered her and then being on multiple drugs at once. She was not in good state and her emotions and drugs combined resulted in the rampage.

2. Is 9 years in prison with 4 1/2 years of non-parole period enough for Amati's rampage?

I think that after her violent rampage, and nearly killing a man while also on many durgs, should be more than just a couple years. Although she didn't kill anyone, 2 innocent people were injured all because of a Tinder date.

  • Well done Aubri!

  • I think the fact that she was rejected, and because she was under drugs resulted in that accident.  She was angry and the drugs only made her even more angry with the situation. I thnk she deserves a long time in prison because she almost killed to innocent people only because she was mad.

  • I think she might have been driven to hurt people anyways since she had messaged multiple people about hating other people and wanting to kill them. The drugs probably pushed her over the edge like you said. I think she should have gotten more time in jail because it was done intentionally while on drugs, with the drugs not really being the one to blame for the incident, and it was only a small stroke of luck she didn't chop Rimmer's head off during her rampage.

  • I think the drugs could have been majority of the reason she did what she did because when you're under the influence you probably have little to no control on your actions, so if she hadn't been on drugs her actions may have not been so intense. She almost killed someone so it's not very unreasonable for that much time in prison and she was under the influence of drugs.

    • Yeah she was very unstable being on all those drugs, she could not of been thinking straight and also the feeling of rejection just was not a good mix and caused her to commit some very violent actions. I think if she had actually killed someone it would of been a different story, but I do think she needs more help than just going to jail.

  • I think that the drugs just made things worse because she probably had no idea what she was doing at the time. I don't think it's unreasonable because she almost killed two people and was under the influence of drugs while doing so. And seeing as cannabis is illegal it makes sense why her sentence is so long.

  • I think the drugs just made it worse. She was probably feeling this way before she took the drugs and the drugs just pushed her over the edge. Since she didn't kill anyone, I don't think she should have gotten to long, but since she did injure a few and was on drugs I think the time she got should be enough.

  • 1.) No, because even though how many drugs she was on, it might not cause her to do that. I feel that the only reason she did what she did is because she was rejected and felt that she wasn't loved, so she decied to attack her tinder date, its not the drugs that mad her do it.

2.) Yes and no because even though she was rejected the person didn't deserve what happened to them, no because she was on the drugs and maybe she should have not gotten on the app while on the drugs.

      • She didn't attack her Tinder date though, the people were just people who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think that all the drugs and her being upset about the Tinder date played a part. There is no way she could be so angry about rejection and just go and almost kill 2 people that she didn't even know. Drugs shouldn't cut her any slack for her actions, if that was the case multiple people would use that as an excuse.

  • I agree that drugs certainly played a role in the violent attacks that the women committed, along with the fact that she had been rejected on her date. I agree with you that for the crime she committed, she should be punished futher and be forced to receive help with other issues in her life.
